NOTE: Do not apply right before it rains, the rain will wash away the application. Best done on a cloudy and cool day. If infestation is severe, don’t wait and spray in the sunshine. Safe to leave on plant after applying. Insecticidal soaps rapidly degrade outdoors and wash off of leaf surfaces with rain or spray bottle watering.
Materials:
◦ 1 gallon of warm water (distilled or tap, but not hard water which can leave mineral deposits on foliage which may damage the plant.)
◦ 2.5 tablespoons to 4 tablespoons of unscented liquid non-detergent soap
◦ 2.5 tablespoons of vegetable oil
Instructions and Explanation:
Mix vigorously and spray generously on foliage, aiming from different angles to coat both the top and undersides of leaves. Apply weekly or every 2 to 3 days for severe infestations. The saponins in dish soap coat and starve insects of water and oxygen.

STRAIN OUT THE GROUND CAYENNE: The ground cayenne pepper must be strained out of the liquid before use or it will clog and possibly ruin the spray bottle.
❗Eye and Skin Irritant: This spray is an eye and skin irritant. Wear gloves and protective eyewear when mixing and while spraying. Keep this spray out of reach of pets and children, as it could be harmful if ingested or gets in their eyes.
Effectiveness: The effectiveness of this repellent on different animals may vary, potency might need to be adjusted depending on the critter to be deterred.
Test First: Test mixture on a discreet, small area first. Check for any adverse effects in a few hours after washing away, such as staining.
Materials:
◦ 2.5 tablespoons to 4 tablespoons of unscented liquid non-detergent soap
◦ 5 teaspoons black pepper oil
◦ 8 tablespoons Tabasco sauce
◦ 8 tablespoons cayenne pepper
◦ 1 gallon warm water (distilled or tap, not hard water which can leave mineral deposits on foliage which may damage the plant.)
◦ 1 gallon container with a good condition lid (lid seals and is leak-proof)
◦ Funnel
◦ Fine mesh strainer with cheesecloth
NEED IT TO DETER LARGE BIRDS? For extra potency, add:
◦ 2.5 tablespoons cedar oil
◦ 2.5 tablespoons clove oil
◦ 2.5 tbsp citronella oil
◦ 1 cup castor oil
Instructions and Explanation:
Wear gloves and eye protection, ground cayenne pepper dust in the eyes burns. First, use the funnel add the wet ingredients: unscented liquid non-detergent soap, Tabasco sauce, and black pepper oil (plus the other listed oils if making “extra potent”). After, fill the rest of the gallon container with warm water, leaving a little space at the top to allow for easy shaking. Seal the container with the cap and shake vigorously. Clearly label the container as “Animal Repellent” and include a warning to wear gloves and eye protection. Every day, shake the gallon container a few times vigorously. The more time the mixture steeps, the stronger the potency. When ready to use, line a fine mesh strainer with cheesecloth and wearing gloves and eye protection, strain out the ground cayenne pepper. Using a funnel, carefully pour the mixture into the spray bottle and apply to areas to repel animals. The soap helps the mixture stick to surfaces longer, reapply every 30 days. Heavy or prolonged rainfall washes away the repellent away more quickly, reapply more often in such circumstances. Depending on the animal you’re trying to deter, there might be more humane or effective methods available to consider as alternative methods. Keep mixture stored at 55°F to 75°F
